VR Loved Life

Once the 'VR Loved Life' project is loaded via an executable file, the user is transported into a 3D virtual room, within a larger virtual environment that is spherical in nature. The user can stay in that location in the virtual room, or they can teleport using the hand controllers of the HTC Vive to specific curated viewpoints within the larger 3D virtual sphere. The content of the room and 3D sphere came as a direct result from stories constructed from the fieldwork with participants who are living with dementia. They also include Proustian literary approach and personal recollections that span different locations and time periods.

The viewpoints include a beach, a woodland glade, as well as personal memories from the participants that have been modified which take on an hallucinatory aesthetic. There is no running time attributed to this piece as it doubles as a recreational reminiscence tool for participants who are suffering from dementia. The environment encourages the user to experience these locations in their own time. This prolonged exposure to the immersive environment is associated with the Proustian literary device of the long sentence and paragraph which has the ability to transport the user to areas of thought beyond the conscious mind, allowing reminiscence to occur and the mind to wander.
